Don't forget to clean the old paste off the heatsink too! Many guides only focus on the CPU/GPU die, but the heatsink fins get gunked up too.

I actually prefer Noctua NT-H1 over MX-4, found it spreads a bit easier and lasts longer in my experience. Both are great options though!

I'm a complete noob at this. Do I need to reapply paste to both the CPU AND GPU, or just whichever one is overheating? How do I even tell which one it is?

For comment 5: You usually want to replace both if they're under the same heatsink assembly. You can use HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check individual CPU/GPU temps.

Thanks for the shoutout for Arctic MX-4, it's a solid choice. Just one small correction, make sure the isopropyl alcohol is *at least* 90% or higher, 99% is ideal for evaporating cleanly.

Careful with the spudger guys, especially around ribbon cables. Seen too many broken clips from people being too rough. Take your time!

Agreed with the spudger comment (comment 3)! I once cracked my chassis trying to pry it open, turns out there was one hidden screw I missed. Always double-check screw locations!

Replying to @comment2: Liquid metal *is* better, but yeah, the risk of shorting components if it spills is huge. Definitely not for beginners. Stick to non-conductive paste for peace of mind.
