It's a Seagate Barracuda 2TB, right? Those models had a pretty high failure rate around 2016-2018. It's a known issue, sadly. Just another reason to always, always have backups!

I'm still seeing high RAM usage even after doing all this. Maybe it's time for a new laptop. My current one only has 8GB RAM.

I totally understand the impression. Just remember that Vercel's free tier has limits, especially on function execution time and memory, so keep an eye on those as your project grows.
